Fashion & Beauty - Beauty Photography Shoot =)

So, it's been a while since I've photographed any beauty headshots, most of my work lately has been more full body or fashion concept so it was nice to be able to set the lighting specifically for some beauty imagery. There are a lot of different ways to light a subject for beauty and a lot of different light modifiers you can use, this time the plan was for simple beautiful images. As simple as they look, they have highly technical lighting to achieve this look and I'm very happy with the end results.
The first one was actually the last image I shot, once we had the images we wanted I threw in one a little more creative with what we had on hand at the time.

A big shout out to the model=)

Fashion- Painting With Light

So we had a shoot yesterday... The first image was to touch the subject with light so that it benifits the image as a whole.. careful balance of colour, in this case the turquiose. The second is a strong use of lighting, colour and shadow. Using lighting technically to create an interesting image. Both have strong compositional qualities. Both of these images have been created like this in camera, by this I mean there hasn't been any colour casting or shadowing in post processing.

ps- Keep an eye on this space in the next couple of days, we just did some beauty headshots today and some of the images are awesome!! It'll probably take me a couple of days to get them processed and up on here as beauty work is very detailed in the post processing department. Until then have a great week =)

Enjoy...

Happy Easter!! & shoot with old car

Happy Easter All =)

We went away with some special friends to Oakune for a couple of days over Easter. For those that are overseas or just don't know their own country too well, Oakune is the ski town of Mt Ruapehu. We scored ourselves an awesome chalet over there thanks to Gaynor & Hamish at www.ruapehu.co.nz. They rok! So we did all the sight seeing things, hot pools and all that jazz, but rather than bore you with my holiday snapshots I thought I'd throw these up.....
On our way over we saw this cool old dilapidated house with an old Holden outside it sitting in long grass, my kinda backdrop for sure! So on our way home we dropped in to get a few images.....

Food Review!!

Firstly- Heads up to The Bach! over the past month we've been there twice for birthdays and we've had a great time both times. You can fill out a form and get a free dinner for your birthday once a year, and if you bring more than 4 friends then you each get a free glass of wine. Now thats an awesome service idea!. Their service is always great and friendly too:)

Heads way down to the cafe Chaos! Now I'm not one to complain, and I like to look on the brightside of life.. but... My wife went there for lunch yesterday and had a chicken and mushroom crepe, last night she became violently ill. Food poisoning! O.k, so we all know this can happen and I think the best way to deal with this is to call the restaruant where we know we ate and let them know, not to complain, but so that they can make changes so other members of the public don't also fall ill. So I called up Chaos this morning to explain to them, said I was not complaining, just letting them know. To my surprise the person on the other end of the phone was highly defensive and rude and told me: "well I ate 2 last night and I'm alright" amongst other things!. I explained once again that i wasn't complaining at all, just letting them know, it still didn't get through and i got another earful of which I had to say "ok, thank you, bye now. It turns out that my wife's food was not heated properly, and another customer who was with her also had a lasagna which was cold. I certainly hope it was not the manager I was talking to. And ofcourse it is written off as a place for us to ever partake in meetings or the likes.

How did we know it was their food? While working on ships with extreme food treatment requirements we are given guidelines in one of our safety courses of certain courses to take and time lines of sicknesses etc. Food poisoning typically takes approximately 5-7 hours to hit after ingesting the food. This is how doctors and restatuarants can pinpoint the problem food. So there you go- food for thought ;-)

Get well soon my beautiful wife!
